Customer’s request

The customer’s silage foil product was packed in cardboard boxes. This meant that 2 waste fractions were to be considered by the end user, namely cardboard and plastic residues. To have only one waste fraction, our customer wanted to pack the product in plastic film. To avoid damages on the roll edges, our customer asked if they could protect the product with a corner protection made from the same material as the film. The packaging film around the roll also needed to be easily removable without damaging the roll of silage foil. Due to the fact that our customer’s factory is fully automated, the request was to build a fully automated line that integrates corner protection, packaging, shrinking and labelling.

Our realisation

We have succeeded in building a line that includes all the following actions: handling, cutting foam strips from foam rolls, gluing the foam on the packaging film, shrinking the front end of the packed roll and identification.

To fulfil the footprint and production requirements of the customer, we had to design a compact machine with a packer for 3 types of pack foils and 4 units for different foam types that can be individually linked to a pack foil type. Everything is fully automated with an ergonomic and intuitive HMI. Our packaging machine can be linked to several production lines, meaning that all types of rolls are running through our packaging machine, even mixed.
