Customer’s request

The customer requested us to build a reliable system for automatic overwinding of tennis strings by length, in 2 types of plastic packaging (blisters). This machine should be able to run autonomously for an extended period. In this respect, we had to take the limited length of yarn on the master bobbins to be overwound into account, which meant that they had to be changed very frequently.

Our realisation

Our solution consisted of the following steps:

  • To create a long run time for the rewinder unit, it was necessary to be able to load multiple master bobbins into the machine. We fitted the rewinder unit with a carousel on which 8 different master bobbins could be placed. Each time a master bobbin is nearly empty, the remaining yarn left in the machine is wound back onto the bobbin
  • After the carousel has rotated through 1 position, a gripper, mounted on a servo shaft, grabs the yarn from the new master bobbin, which is then moved to the winding position

  • While the thread tension control and length measurement automatically move into position around the yarn, the new yarn to be wound is inserted through the hole that was just pricked in the blister. The yarn is then wound into the blister to the requested yarn length.
  • The filled blister is discharged by means of conveyor belts.

This solution increased the machine's autonomy by eight times, which allows the operator to take on other tasks.
